Watching Wildlife
Fort Clinch State Park anchors the northern tip of Amelia
Island and offers refuge to wood storks, great egrets,
great blue herons, otters, alligators, turtles, and the
endangered piper plover and threatened least tern; Winter
is a great time to set up a suet feeder with your children;
Winter's also the right time to spot the endangered Northern
Right Whale - now through March, pregnant females and
some males and juveniles head south from New England and
southern Canadian coasts to shallow waters between Savannah,
GA, and Port Canaveral. Natural Occurrences this month
include overwintering geese and ducks in wetlands, tree
swallows roosting at sunset over large marsh systems,
and manatees congregating round springs, which offer the
warmest waters.
Footprints

ancestry back to Samuel Ellis's little island. Brian Michaels
offers genealogists tips on what their ancestors' journey
through the New York landmark can uncover today. -- by
